Useful Jenkins Starts Out 2017 Right at The What's Up Lounge

It was a packed house at The What's Up Lounge on New Year's Eve!!  Saturday, December 31st's show was nothing short of amazing.  I believe that people had to wait downstairs until some people cleared out, as the place was at capacity!!  That's a great way to support local music and to ring in 2017!!

After making it through the crowd to the front, I got my camera ready as Stringdingers started out the show.  I wasn't sure what to expect from them, but their nearly hour and a half set had the crowd dancing, singing, and just having a wonderful time!  A bluegrass band, Stringdingers kept things interesting by having a guest violinist, (from Useful Jenkins), and every now and then the drummer would break out the washboard!  A mix of unique covers and original songs, Stringdingers put on a great set and got everyone ready to party with Useful Jenkins!

Speaking of that, there was only a small pause in the action and Useful Jenkins took the stage!  At this point, the place was packed and getting to the stage was difficult, but everyone was really nice and let me in to get my photos!  It was clear that people were ready to party with this Mankato band!!  Useful Jenkins started out fast and kept the pace going throughout their set.  I had to leave for about 1/2 hour to ring in the New Year with my beautiful wife, but I made it back after to see more of the show.  People were still going strong and loving every song that Useful Jenkins played!  Needless to say, it was a great way to close out 2016 and bring in 2017!

I wish every show would have at least half of the turnout that this show had!  Something that was a first for me was someone painting on a canvas off to one side of the stage.  I hadn't seen that before.  Keep up the great work Mankato!  There are a ton of great shows coming up already in 2017, so head over to The What's Up Lounge website to see all of them!

As always, get out and support live music and I'll see you out there!
