Styx Closes Out 2017 Shows at Vetter Stone Amphitheater In Style
If you were short on things to do this weekend in Mankato, you certainly weren't looking hard enough. Closing out the weekend, and the summer season of shows at Vetter Stone, was Styx playing to a packed house! The lines at Vetter Stone are usually not very long since there is an hour between doors and showtime, but there were a good amount of people lined up to get in for this one. The perfect weather on a lazy Sunday sure helped. Once the gates were opened there was a steady stream of people making their way in and finding seats.
GB Leighton started out the show playing a mix of songs from his many albums as well as a few covers mixed in. With the stage set up for Styx, there wasn't a lot of room to move around, but the band made the best of it. They certainly had the crowd moving to their songs during their set. About mid-way through they played a fantastic cover of Prince's "Purple Rain" that got the crowd singing along and cheering when they were finished. GB Leighton got the crowd ready for the rest of the show and judging from the people heading to the merch area, the crowd loved it!
By the time Styx took to the stage, the crowd was already up front in the pit area and they were ready for the show. The band started out fast for their first few songs and then slowed it down for a few and went right back into the fast pace. Along with the spinning keyboard and massive drum kit, there was a platform with multiple stairways that led up to it. The band would take turns heading up there to play and sometimes almost all of them would head up there. Below the platform there were LED screens that displayed random things depending on the song that was playing. Each song was met with cheers as you could hear singing throughout the entire venue. Styx put on a performance that was certainly a show to remember and a great one to close out the 2017 concert season at Vetter Stone Amphitheater.
