Don Henley Plays at Xcel Energy Center on Father's Day
Don Henley came to the Twin Cities on Sunday, June 18th, 2017 and it seemed that tickets to the show was a popular Father's Day gift! Although the Xcel Energy Center wasn't as full as it had been two night prior, there was still a good showing. I was shooting this show for KRBI, (105.5 The River).
JD & The Straight Shot got the show started. All of us photographers were stuck in a small area by the soundboard, but the band was lit up pretty good and it was easy to take photos for our first 3 songs. The band didn't really move around all that much, but the music was pretty awesome. I could still hear them after we were escorted out to the main gate, and they sounded great for the entire set. I would like to see JD & The Straight Shot play a more intimate venue in the Mankato area!
Next up was Don Henley after about a 20 minute break. There was a lot of people on the stage and they were not as well lit as the opening band. The camera I was using gave me a longer zoom, but couldn't handle the settings as well as my newer ones. I also couldn't change cameras since it was dark and we were in such a small area. So, I made the best of it and waited for the light when it showed up. Don Henley sounded really good and each song was met with cheers before and after. He said they would be playing for about 2 hours with music spanning 40 years! Again, I only caught the first three, but he started out strong and I'm sure he kept it going through the night!
Even though there wasn't much action on stage, it wasn't really needed all night since both bands relied on the music to carry the crowd through the night. It makes sense since the people usually go to a show for the music!
As always, get out and support live music and I'll see you out there!
