Green Day Puts On Epic Show at the Xcel Energy Center
Anyone in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas have been waiting patiently for Saturday, April 1st to come around. Green Day announced that they were coming to town and the show quickly sold out! The buzz started about a week before on social media and just about everyone I knew was going to the show. I arrived to the Xcel Energy Center at around 7 and the traffic was really crazy! I managed to make my way to the parking ramp and made the trek to the main gate.
When the other photographers and myself were escorted to the pit, as soon as I walked through into the main room I could see the place was already really full! Against Me started out the show. They had a good section of the stage for their performance and they used it well often running back and forth in between singing. Their first song was hard hitting and they didn't let up until their set was over. I was only able to see the first three songs, but I could hear them still from the main gate area and it seemed they put on a great performance!
We were once again escorted down to the pit for Green Day and the number of people that were waiting had increased quite a bit. The amount of excitement could be felt as I walked down the stairs. Shortly before Green Day hit the stage, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" played and everyone started singing along. That was certainly a cool thing to watch! I had to take a short video with my phone and you can check that out below.
The Drunken Bunny did his thing next and then Green Day took to the stage and the roar of the crowd was deafening when they saw the band members. Green Day had just about anything you could want in a live show. Pyro, fireworks, tons of light, and of course the hits they are known for! The two song I was able to witness while taking photos was "Know Your Enemy", and "Bang, Bang". The setlist was certainly full of my favorites and it made me wish I could have taken advantage of the opportunity to watch the entire show. Green Day put on the show that everyone had been waiting for and I'm sure they all will be waiting until the next time they stop in the Twin Cities, just like I am!
