Bobaflex Warms Up Buster's Sports Bar and Grill

It was the day that many had waited for.  Bobaflex made a return to the Mankato area and played at Buster's Sports Bar and Grill.  It was actually a follow up show since they played an acoustic set Monday at the Rounders VIP Lounge!  The place was packed when I got there at about 6:30 and it stayed that way right up through the end of the night.  Why was I there so early you say?  We added a couple more interviews for The Fox and The Photographer series with Diskord and Strange Days, (the opening bands), so look for those to be posted soon!  After the interviews were over, I went out to see what the lighting situation was.  Buster's is weird, as the lighting changes for each show.  Last time I was there, it was pretty good.  This time, however, the lights in the front were unplugged or just weren't used.  There was only one light shining from either corner and the rest was behind the bands.  It made photos pretty tough to get unless I caught each member in a certain spot.  As such, I didn't get as many photos as usual.  Kind of frustrating, but the quality music made it ok!

Diskord took the stage first and I am proud to say that I've seen all their shows since their return.  If you didn't know, they recently played a show at The What's Up Lounge after a few years of a break.  It was great to talk with them before and after the show and seeing them live was again a treat!  Not many people made their way up front, but that seems to be how shows are in Mankato.  Diskord started out the show fast and heavy and certainly set the tone for the rest of the night.

Next up was one of my favorites, Strange Daze.  I've seen these guys quite a few times and they impress each time.  They acquired a new drummer since the last time I saw them, and it sounded like he had been in the band for years.  This was the longest set I've seen from them in a while, and it was cool to listen to all my favorite songs from Strange Daze once again!

Bobaflex took to the stage next and right from the first song people were up at the stage singing along and dancing to all the songs!  I've only ever caught them at Buster's, so I think it would be interesting to see them in another venue with a little larger stage.  They loved to move around the small area they did have, so I think the energy level would be a lot higher with a larger stage.  Bobaflex played all the songs the crowd wanted to hear, but I have a feeling any song they played would have fit that category.

March has certainly brought in a lot of shows and it's only going to get crazier as the year progresses!!  Keep an eye out for more show reviews and like Askew View Photo on Facebook to see the links as soon as they are posted!  Also, be sure to check out all the bands mentioned in this article and give them a like as well!

As always, get out and support live music and I'll see you out there!
